Lowlies in Tokyo
生涯倍加してゆく弟子たちを、日本へ、世界へ満たそう!
Life-long multiplying disciples to Japan and to the world!
December 08 issue

A historical moment in Japan CCC. We sent our 1st Japanese STInt team to Sydney on Nov 14th. (From left to right - Shubo, Pat & Nobu)
We are into the cold winter but our kids are still wearing T-shirts to school everyday! We want you to know how grateful to the Lord we are for you. With the economic uncertainty that has affected so many people, we are reminded of your sacrificial gifts for our ministry. Whether we're taking the train, buying groceries, paying for our kids' school fees or purchasing materials for the people we disciple, we can do this because of your generosity.

BEYOND ADDITION - MULTIPLICATION!
Right after our return from furlough in late Aug, we had a series of meetings & one of which was a planning retreat Patrick led with our Tokyo staff team. Besides planning for the next semester, we wanted to refocus that the Great Commission is not just about winning new believers but building disciples (potential spiritual multiplier) that will likewise be committed to the Great Commission. In late November during one of our regular staff team meeting, we did a simple headcount & was encouraged to see a few spiritual multiplications taking place - having our more mature Christians to disciple new Christian. Please pray for us to keep the focus of not just evangelism (addition) but also discipleship (multiplication) with a mindset of outreach to the pre-Christians. Pray for Makochan, Oku, Daichi, Aya, Yumi, Sora & Yukina (more than half of this group of students are new Christians themselves) as they take on the challenge of investing into the lives of the newer Christians.

We have definitely encountered many disappointments as we are trying to reach the students but nonetheless, we would like to share with you the joy of witnessing one of our contacts then, Kohei who became a Christian in Mar 17th 2008. It didn't take him long before he decided to make a public confession of his faith through water baptism in May 2008. Kohei met 2 staff members during his freshman matriculation in Apr 2007 & was invited to our weekly English lunch time meeting on his campus, Gaidai-University of Foreign Language. Because of his interest in foreigners & English, he came back for many of our activities. Although he was not spiritually interested at the beginning, he was slowly but surely exposed to Jesus through our community. He finally decided to commit his life to Jesus in Mar 17th 2008 after Nobu took time to clarify some of his doubts. Kohei is now doing weekly Bible study with one of our staff members as he continues to remain active in our movement. Kohei's situation is unusual as it usually takes us a much longer process before we get to see a result. Please pray for many more of our young Christians who will grow in their love relationship with Jesus & will choose to honor Him with their lives & be a lifelong disciple.
That's what brings excitement & joy to us even as we help provide leadership to our field staff who seeks to reach the more than 700,000 university students in Tokyo among the more than 130 campuses & beyond!

THE JOY OF THE SEASON - CHRISTMAS CAMPAIGN
Oct 30, our American STInters helped organized an evangelistic Halloween Party. 115 of our contacts came.
Nov 27, our American STInters again helped to organize an evangelistic Thanksgiving Party. 70 of our contacts came 3 Prayed to Receive Christ in response to the altar call. Please pray for protection over the new believers their follow-up growth.

With the Thanksgiving Party, we will begin our annual Christmas Campaign with various Home Party which will culminate to our evangelistic Christmas Party on Dec 18. Christmas season is a special time when we experience an openness among our Japanese friends and has typically been a busy season for our staff, STInters students as we seek to reach as many as possible with the gospel. Please pray against burnt-out instead, the joy of the season that God will lead us to those whom He has already prepared their hearts!

How are we doing?

As the world is facing an economic hard situation, Japanese Yen is back with a record high. That meaning to say that with our allowance paid in Singapore dollars, we have about 7.4% less buying power here in Japan than in Aug (and it's worse for our fellow Korean staff) But we desire to follow Paul's faith to be content in all circumstances through Christ (Phil. 4:12). Please pray for us, as we pray for you, for wisdom about where to cut spending. If you're not struggling financially, please know that we would be blessed by an extra gift if God leads you so! (Since our last newsletter sharing about our financial needs, we have not been able to see much improvement)

Hope to hear from you at Christmas!
