REPORT ON LAST SUMMER MISSION TEAMS

On Sep 18, we had a simple welcome party to receive the first new batch of 6 short term workers. As of now, we are still waiting for 1 more arrival to make up a total of 10 new workers.
It was a crazy summer but we are definitely celebrating with the angels in heaven for the many who have been ushered into the kingdom of God! The Summer Mission Team members were contagious & their enthusiasm were well felt by our Japanese Christian students too. The total of 122 mission team workers made up 9 teams that were spread over at least 10 different campuses in Tokyo in partnership with our local campus staff!

The goal of the mission team is to help sow the gospel seed broadly on the campuses by building relationship with the students & filtering out those who are spiritually interested in JESUS or the Bible. We are thankful that the teams were able to build relationship with more than 600 new people & through that, they were able to share the gospel with more than 337 students of which 40 of them made decisions to receive Christ! Because of your prayers, we are able to see at least 9 out of the 40 new believers been transited to follow-up Bible study.

OUR LAST FURLOUGH from 16 July to 27 Aug 2008

Please forgive us for not doing a better job in keeping you informed of our last furlough. We have been so overwhelmed by the transition in Patrick's role to leadership and we definitely need time to learn the new rope & align our new schedule. We were busy trying to put some new structure in place till the very moment before we left for our furlough and even during our supposed furlough in Singapore, Patrick was busy with decision making over some ministry responsibilities back in Tokyo.

Special thanks go to a few individuals who have helped to make our time special.

  • Regina, our kids have asked, "Can we go back to the English Class next time when we go back to Singapore?" You've helped to plant the seed of English learning. Thank you so much for your generosity to receive our kids to your enrichment centre for the weekdays. ***Our kids are all enrolled in local Japanese schools.

  • Michelle, Sarah & Teri for taking the kids out after Sunday School to the parks : They are definitely spoilt by the attention they are getting from the BIG sisters!

  • Not forgetting the many fellowship meals, presentation and memorable time we had with individuals & groups of supporters.

    SPECIAL REQUEST

For the very 1st time after the past few years where we have been enjoying a positive staff support account, our Sep '08 statement showed a negative balance. There are 2 main reasons to account for the deficit.

    1. Due to Patrick's new role as the Tokyo City Campus Director, we are experiencing an increase in *ministry expenses (mostly due to additional need for traveling expenses, in & out of country).
*As most of you are aware of, each individual staff member is to raise for his or her own ministry expenses on top of our personal salary.

    2. Staff salary increment with effect from Jul '08. This is a response to the Financial Policy Review that was launched by our HR Dept in April last year which showed how as an organization, we have lagged behind in our remuneration package for our staff at all levels (our last major review was in the late 1990s). As much as we have been given ample warning prior to the implementation to raise for the additional increment, we have been lacking in making time to respond to the situation.

Could we invite you to consider giving a one-time gift or being our monthly supporter? It is to help cover our deficit and the new increment for our monthly support needs. Please feel free to write to us for more details if that will help you to discern your giving. Thank you so much for your willingness to prayerfully consider meeting our needs through your sacrificial giving.
