September 2010

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced that 2010 average summer temperatures across the country were the hottest on their over 100 year long record, since 1898 with an average of +2.25C. Talk about hot weather in Singapore, we were ready for a shock when we got back on Aug 25th. It has been about a month since we came back & we are just glad that the weather is finally turning cooler & ready for the fall now.

SNAPSHOT OF OUR FURLOUGH, Jun 1st to Aug 25

Small Group of The Bible Church - On most Fridays & Saturdays evening, our Church Liaisons did a great job to schedule us to cover as many small groups as possible, making a record of a total of 18 small groups. Individual/couple supporters - We are also grateful for the opportunity to meet with some of our existing supporters on a personal level, especially during the weekdays.

***It's such a privilege to be accepted into your fellowship. It was so heartwarming to know that it's not about what we have done that we are accepted but your concern goes way beyond how our family is coping with life in Tokyo, our well being.

Jun 14~18: The Bible Church Camp at The Saujana Hotel, KL

Our last church camp was in 2001, the year before we left for Tokyo. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be ministered by Dr Rod Wilson, President of Regent College on the topic of 'The Tapestry of Community'. We were definitely ministered through His Word & the interaction & fellowship of His people. It was a special treat!
Jun 28~Aug 6: New local school experiences for Elisha & Megumi

Although we have planned to send our kids for English Enrichment Classes, the option was presented to us to send our kids to a local mission school for immersion program. As a result, Elisha & Megumi started school (P5 & P3 respectively) during the new semester on Jun 28. We sent Hitoshi to the English Enrichment Class as planned.

Aug 7 to 10, Redang Island at Terengganu of Malaysia
One of the events our kids were looking forward to was the promised family vacation with a group of 3 supporter-families they know.
Beng Tiek & Ros, Yen Theng & Terence, Soon Seong & Angela - Redang is awesome!
Aug 16 to 20, Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam
We have arranged for a family vacation with our former house owner, the Kanekos (the couple who has named Hitoshi & are like surrogate grandparents). Please continue to pray for their salvation with us.

OUR CURRENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT STATUS
Prior to going back to Singapore, we incurred a deficit (generated mainly as a result of not having a full monthly support) & ended receiving partial salary for 2 months. Through the generous giving of many during our last furlough, we were able to cover the deficit, get a back-pay while building up some reserve (although it'll be depleted in just a matter of time if we do not raise our full monthly support needs). Please continue to pray with us as we approach individual to come on board with us.

OUR FUTURE PLAN
Shortly prior to our leaving for Singapore, the decision was made that Patrick will be stepping down from his role as the Tokyo Campus Director in Sep 2010. The timing was good as it allowed us to consult with the leaders of our home church & SCCC Mission & HR Directors about our future plan & direction. We were able to get some good advice to start planning for our next step (more details in our next newsletter).

Special thanks go to a few individuals who have helped to make our time special.
  • Yeng Wai & Hil May for being our great Church Liaisons.

  • Shien Kwok & Grace for opening your house to us.

  • Rina for your willingness to accept our kids to your school with such short notice.

  • Regina & her son, Conan for coaching all the 3 kids in their English learning.

And to the many unsung heroes! From the day of arrival at midnight till the day of departure in the early morning, we are reminded by the many of you who have gone out of your way to serve or minister to us! We are assured that we are not in this alone & for that, we thank God for each one of you!
